Formation of the legally independent company Voith Sulzer Papiertechnik GmbH headquartered in Heidenheim.

Delivery of the millionth fluid coupling, the 100 000th retarder and the 25 000th Turbo Transmission for rail vehicles.
Janus concept: online and offline calendering for the highest speeds.

1996
Braviken PM 53, Sweden: at 1 700 m/min, the world's fastest newsprint machine.
Delivery to Dagang China of two of the world's largest paper machines.
Takeover of the transmission business from Thyssen Guss AG, Essen.

1997
Delivery of Triple Star, the world's most efficient paper production plant, to Austria.
Delivery of the 100 000th Voith automatic transmission and the 150 000th retarder.
Voith Hydro is awarded the order to deliver six turbines to the hydro power plant at the Three-Gorges dam in China. Upon completion it is expected to be the world's most powerful hydro power plant.
The Voith-water tractor is recognized as BAT (Best Available Technology) for the save escort of oil tankers.

1998
Order of the 700th Voith water tractor.
Takeover of Scharfenbergkupplung, Salzgitter, and Kuesel Antriebe, Essen.

1999
The two most powerful Voith water tractors of the world (10 200 HP each) for escort duty in Alaska.
Voith acquires the paper technology divisions of Scapa plc., Blackburn.

2000
Voith Siemens Hydro Power Generation created as a joint venture.
Voith increases its stake in DIW Deutsche Industriewartung AG and becomes the industrial leader in the association.
After cooperative negotiations, Voith takes over a majority stake from Sulzer AG in their common paper technology joint venture. The Corporate Division is named Voith Paper.
